Avigliana Castle

Avigliana Castle consists of stone ruins from a medieval fortification perched on a hilltop above the town. The remains of walls and defensive structures spread across the elevated terrain, offering open views across the surrounding valleys.

The fortification was established in the early 10th century and served as a key center of regional authority for centuries. Over time the structure fell into decline and was eventually abandoned, leaving behind the ruins visible today.

The ruins tell the story of power and control in medieval times, when this fortress watched over the valleys below. The site remains meaningful to locals as a symbol of their region's strength and independence.

A walking path from the town center leads up to the ruins on a moderate uphill route that takes about 20 minutes. Wear sturdy shoes since the ground is uneven and some sections become steep.

The hilltop position offers views of two natural lakes below that were formed by ancient volcanic activity in the area. These lakes shape the character of the entire landscape surrounding the fortress.
