Castello superiore di Arnad, Medieval castle in Arnad, Italy
The Castello superiore di Arnad stands on a natural promontory overlooking the village of Ville and the ancient via Francigena trade route.
The castle appears in documents from 1207, mentioning its chapel dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene and Saint Michael the Archangel.
The central section features medieval battlements, large fireplaces, and frescoed coats of arms representing the architectural style of the 14th century.
The castle remains in private ownership and currently does not allow public access, though visitors can observe its exterior structure from nearby viewpoints.
The castle contains a rare tower specifically built for latrines, inspired by similar structures in the Palace of the Popes in Avignon.
