Santuario Machaby

Santuario Machaby is a shrine situated against a cliff face at 774 meters elevation above Arnad, combining traditional construction with religious decorations and furnishings. The building includes multiple spaces where visitors can pause and pray.

This shrine was established in 1687, replacing an earlier hermitage that had connections with the Abbey of Saint Zeno in Verona. This link shows how religious networks operated across the Alps in the past.

This sanctuary serves as a pilgrimage destination where visitors light candles and offer prayers to Our Lady of the Snows in the Catholic tradition. People come from the valley below to experience this place of devotion set high in the mountains.

The shrine contains a reproduction of the Scala Santa, the famous sacred staircase from Rome, integrated into the mountainous setting. This replica allows visitors to experience a significant religious element without traveling to Rome.
