San Francesco a Bonistallo

San Francesco a Bonistallo is a church in Poggio a Caiano with a single nave and a barrel vault ceiling. A 19th-century porch with several tombstones stands at the entrance.

The church stands where an older chapel called Santa Maria of Bonistallo once served the Medici family from the 13th century onward. The current building replaced that earlier religious site over time.

Inside, you can see religious artworks created by artists from different periods. The space feels like a place where believers have gathered to pray for generations.

The bell tower was designed in 1938 by architect Ardengo Soffici and houses four bells cast by Premiata Fonderia Pasqualini workshop. This rare combination shows how an architect and craftspeople worked together to shape this building.
