Castello di Stenico

Castello di Stenico is a medieval fortress perched at about 670 meters elevation with reinforced walls, multiple towers, and refined interior spaces. The castle contains regional artworks and a well-preserved chapel that showcase its former role as both a cultural and administrative center.

The site traces back to ancient Stone Age settlements and later became a Roman outpost. It was then transformed into a medieval fortress that guarded the region for centuries.

The Chapel of San Martino displays Romanesque frescoes showing religious scenes and saints. These artworks reflect the spiritual role the castle held for the local community over the centuries.

The fortress is reached easily by road from the village and provides wheelchair accessibility for visitors. It operates as a branch of the Museo Castello del Buonconsiglio di Trento and maintains regular opening hours.

The Bozone Tower, also called the Tower of Hunger, contains prison cells with a ceiling trapdoor used when the castle held inmates. This tower reveals a darker chapter of the past and shows the harsh conditions prisoners endured.
