Castello di Zena

Castello di Zena is a medieval castle in Carpaneto Piacentino made up of six historical buildings arranged in a square around an inner courtyard. The complex occupies a significant area and displays the typical layout of a fortified medieval structure.

The earliest records mention the castle from 1216, when Cremonese troops destroyed it during a military campaign in the region. This event shows how important the fortress was as a strategic location in the area.

The castle shows Italian building traditions through its fortified design with a moat and remains of a medieval drawbridge. Visitors can see how the buildings are arranged around the inner courtyard and understand how such fortifications once worked.

The castle is located between the Riglio and Chero rivers near Carpaneto Piacentino and can be reached from several nearby towns. Visitors should plan their visit considering the rural location and travel times from larger cities.

In 2013 the castle served as a filming location for the short film Il Custode, which received an award at the Giffoni Film Festival. This shows that the historical site remains an inspiring place for creative projects today.
