The German Military Cemetery spans 10 hectares of land with 20 squares of green lawn featuring systematically placed porphyry crosses marking individual gravesites.
Following a 1955 agreement between Italy and Germany, the cemetery became the final resting place for 27,443 German soldiers who died during World War II.
The memorial structure incorporates stone pillars supporting a canopy with mosaic work by German artist Schmoll Eisenwerth depicting soldiers and mourning relatives.
Located 30 kilometers south of Rome along Via Pontina, the cemetery maintains regular visiting hours and provides informational materials about the war memorial.
The central memorial includes four life-sized figures representing mourning soldiers, with 3,770 graves belonging to unidentified military personnel.
