Collegiata di Santa Maria, Gothic collegiate church in Figline Valdarno, Italy.
Collegiata di Santa Maria is a Gothic collegiate church in Figline e Incisa Valdarno with a single nave covered by wooden roof trusses and four tall pointed arch windows. The facade dates to the 16th century and features a gabled design with a marble portal.
The church was built between 1252 and 1257 to replace an earlier structure destroyed by Florentines in 1250. Pope Alexander VI granted it collegiate status in 1493.
The interior displays artworks from different periods, including a panel by Giovanni Andrea de Magistris and an altarpiece by the Master of Figline. These pieces show how the church has been a place where religious art developed over centuries.
The church maintains regular opening hours and visitors can explore the main sanctuary as well as an adjacent collection of sacred art. When planning a visit, it is worth checking if there are specific viewing times for the art collection.
The chapel of the Blessed Sacrament features a circular design with ten Corinthian columns supporting a dome. This unusual architecture with multiple arched windows stands apart from the rest of the church.
