Collezione Maramotti, Modern art museum in Reggio Emilia, Italy
Collezione Maramotti occupies the former Max Mara fashion headquarters and displays over 200 contemporary artworks created from 1945 onward. The building combines exhibition spaces with the history of a site that was previously dedicated to fashion manufacturing.
Founded by Max Mara creator Achille Maramotti in the 1970s, the museum opened to the public in 2007 after a conversion from a manufacturing facility. This shift from factory to exhibition space marked a turning point in how the building was used.
The collection shows European art movements like art informel and neo-expressionism that developed after World War II. It gives a sense of how artists of that era searched for new directions and how their work continues to matter today.
Visitors can join guided tours of the permanent exhibition offered on Thursday and Friday at 3 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 AM and 3 PM. Tours are kept to small groups to allow for a focused experience.
The museum awards the Max Mara Art Prize for Women every two years in partnership with the Whitechapel Gallery in London. This prize supports emerging British female artists and brings their work to an Italian audience.
