Forte di Gavi

The fortress extends across multiple levels with thick stone walls, guard towers, and strategic defensive positions overlooking the Lemme Valley below.

Built upon a medieval castle from 973, the structure was transformed into a military fortress in 1540 under architect Giovanni Maria Olgiati's direction.

The museum displays military artifacts and educational exhibits that document the defense strategies used by Italian forces through different periods.

Visitors can access the fortress daily from October to March between 8:30 and 16:30, with modified hours during spring and summer seasons.

The fort served as a prison facility during both World Wars and contains preserved cell blocks that showcase this particular period of its history.
