Fortezza Orsini

The Orsini Fortress stands atop a hill with two defensive bastions connected by walkways, featuring multiple levels of military architecture and Renaissance design elements.

Originally constructed by the Aldobrandeschi family in the 13th century, the fortress underwent major modifications in the 16th century to enhance its defensive capabilities against Orvieto and Siena.

The octagonal tower contains 16th-century frescoes depicting mythological scenes, while the Archaeological Museum displays regional artifacts within the fortress walls.

Guided tours lasting one hour allow visitors to explore the underground areas, ancient ventilation shafts, and strategic firing points throughout the fortification complex.

A solitary fox inhabits the fortress grounds, roaming freely across the premises after the daily tourist visits conclude.
