Lake Cingoli, Artificial lake in Cingoli, Italy
Lake Cingoli, also known as Lago di Cingoli, is an artificial reservoir in the Marche hills of central Italy, formed by a dam on the Musone River. It sits among forested slopes and open hillsides that are typical of this part of the region.
The dam on the Musone River was built in the 1980s to supply water to the surrounding region. Flooding the valley behind it reshaped the land permanently and created a body of water where farmland and forest once stood.
The lake is popular with families and anglers from across the Marche region, who spend weekends along its shores. The surrounding hills and open water give the place a relaxed, rural feel that draws people away from city life.
The lake is easy to reach by car, and paths along the shore are open to walkers and hikers. Summer is the busiest time, when boat rentals and picnic areas along the shoreline are in full use.
Standing on top of the dam, you can see still water on one side and a sheer drop into the forest below on the other. Few spots along the lake give such a direct sense of how the dam changed the shape of the valley.
