Parco Valle del Lanza, Nature reserve and local park in Lombardy, Italy.
Valle del Lanza Nature Reserve is a large protected area spanning multiple municipalities with diverse natural environments. The river forms the core of the reserve, connecting everything from the slopes of Monte San Giorgio down to where it meets the Olona River.
The area received official protection status in 2002 to preserve its natural landscape and heritage. Later in 2015, a section containing geologically important quarries was designated as a Natural Monument, recognizing the scientific value of the region.
The park takes its name from the Lanza River, which has shaped life in this region for centuries through its flow and resources. You can still see remnants of old mills scattered throughout, showing how communities once depended on the water for daily work.
You can start walking from several entry points spread across the different municipalities, making access flexible. Marked trails are available throughout, so checking information beforehand helps you choose the right route for your visit.
A visit reveals the Molera Quarries, where you can see unusual rock layers made of a stone type found rarely elsewhere. These geological features attract those curious about how the land and stone formed in this particular region.
