Palazzo della Marra

Palazzo della Marra, Baroque palace in Barletta, Italy.

Palazzo della Marra is a three-story Baroque building featuring five arcaded loggias with ribbed vaults and an interior courtyard lined with columns. The structure faces the sea and displays ornamental columns and carved stonework typical of the Lecce Baroque style.

The building originated during the Renaissance period and was substantially transformed by the Della Marra family, who gave it its current name. Their renovations converted the earlier structure into the Baroque design that defines the palace today.

Today the palace functions as an art museum displaying works by the Italian painter Giuseppe De Nittis. You can see how 19th-century artistic production was valued and what subjects occupied the artist's attention during his lifetime.

The palace is located in the old town center on Via Enrico Cialdini and is easily accessible on foot for those exploring the historic quarter. Visit during daylight hours to best appreciate the interior spaces and the paintings displayed throughout the building.

This building is the only example of Lecce Baroque architecture found outside the Salento region of Puglia. This makes it an architectural outlier that demonstrates how this style influenced construction practices beyond its geographic heartland.
