Piacenza cable-stayed bridge

Piacenza cable-stayed bridge, Railway bridge in Piacenza, Italy.

The Piacenza cable-stayed bridge is a railway crossing spanning 1343 meters over the Po River with two main towers rising roughly 60 meters high to support the span. The structure connects Piacenza and San Rocco al Porto, carrying high-speed trains across the water.

The bridge opened in 2009 as a key addition to the Milan-Bologna high-speed rail line, significantly improving train connections across the Po River valley. This completion strengthened the northern Italian railway network between these two major cities.

This bridge stands as an engineering achievement in Italian infrastructure, connecting the communities of Piacenza and San Rocco al Porto across the Po River.

The bridge is in full train operation and can be viewed from the outside, such as from nearby riverbanks or road overpasses in the surrounding area. A good way to experience it is by taking a train journey across it or visiting the adjacent towns.

Each tower is anchored by roughly 28 foundation piles that act as a barrier against the Po River's strong erosion patterns. This deep foundation system was essential to maintain the bridge's stability against the river's powerful forces.
