Riserva naturale orientata Torre Salsa, Protected coastal reserve in Siculiana, Italy

The Riserva naturale orientata Torre Salsa is a protected coastal reserve on Sicily's southern shore featuring white limestone cliffs and sandy coves. The site covers around 761 hectares and supports typical Mediterranean scrubland vegetation adapted to dry conditions.

The area was designated as a protected reserve in 2000 by the Italian government and placed under WWF Italia's management. This move was made to prevent coastal development and preserve the natural character of the shoreline.

The name comes from an old defensive tower that once stood here, and today the place serves as a meeting point for nature lovers seeking authentic Mediterranean landscapes. Local conservation groups conduct regular monitoring to track the species that live along this coastline.

The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler and crowds are smaller. Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and sturdy footwear, as the paths cross rocky terrain.

At the base of an amphitheater-shaped valley lie natural gypsum formations, some covered by juniper growth. These geological features were created over thousands of years and form an uncommon landscape within the Mediterranean setting.
