Rifugio Menaggio is a mountain shelter situated on the slopes of Monte Grona at 1,383 meters (4,537 feet). It provides sleeping space for 25 guests and has a dining area that can accommodate 40 people.
The shelter was founded in 1962 through community efforts and donations to support mountaineers exploring the Lake Como region. This cooperative spirit reflects how local people have long helped climbers pursue their mountain journeys.
The refuge restaurant serves regional Lombardy specialties, including local cheeses, cured meats, and wines from nearby vineyards. These dishes connect visitors directly with the food traditions of surrounding mountain communities.
The climb follows a marked trail starting from Breglia and takes about two hours with an elevation gain of roughly 650 meters (2,130 feet). Visitors should wear sturdy hiking boots and bring weather-appropriate clothing, as mountain conditions can shift quickly.
