Villa Greppi-Gonzaga

Villa Greppi-Gonzaga is a neoclassical residence in Olgiate Olona with stone-framed windows and symmetrical facades in the classical style. A granite staircase descends from the main building through the surrounding gardens toward the athletic grounds below.

The building was constructed in the first half of the 19th century, replacing an earlier villa that had occupied the site since the 17th century. Count Alessandro Greppi purchased the property in 1820 and oversaw its transformation into the neoclassical residence that stands today.

The Sala Alba displays tempera paintings with children's themes by Antonio Rubino, reflecting artistic tastes of the 19th century. These decorations show how educated families chose to fill their rooms with contemporary art.

The property now serves as a cultural center housing a public library, school spaces, and municipal offices that people visit regularly. The garden grounds with mature trees and walking paths are accessible to visitors who want to explore the exterior spaces.

The gardens contain mature beech, fir, and oak trees that create a forested quality to the grounds. An incomplete granite staircase runs through these trees, giving the property an unusual and unfinished character that distinguishes it.
