Balsigliano Castle

Balsigliano Castle stands in the Province of Bari and features high defensive walls, multiple towers, and a surrounding moat typical of medieval fortifications. The stone construction displays the standard defensive elements expected in a fortress of this period.

The fortress was first documented in 962, marking its foundation during the period of Norman influence in southern Italy. This early establishment shaped its role as a defensive installation in the region during the centuries that followed.

Access is through the southern entrance where guided tours begin daily to organize visits through the complex. It helps to wear appropriate footwear since you will walk over uneven ground and stone surfaces throughout the site.

The moat system surrounds the entire complex except on the northern side and remains one of the best preserved defensive features at the site. This engineering shows how medieval builders protected the location against attacks from multiple directions.
