Villa Sciarra

Villa Sciarra is an educational facility in Frascati housed in a former aristocratic residence with a classical entrance portal designed by Nicola Salvi. The grounds contain Roman ruins scattered throughout the garden and a terrace overlooking the surrounding countryside.

Originally built as Villa Bel Poggio around 1570, this property passed through various noble families over the centuries. In 1932, a religious community converted it into an orphanage, beginning its transition toward its current educational purpose.

The school here occupies a former noble residence, showing how aristocratic estates in this region were repurposed for education. Walking through, you notice how the building still carries the marks of its transformation from private villa to public institution.

The site is currently used as an active school, so visiting access may be restricted during the academic year. It is best to check in advance about possible visiting times and plan accordingly.

The original name Villa Bel Poggio referred to its hilltop location, which was carefully chosen for the original noble estate. This elevated position still offers commanding views across the Roman countryside beyond the property.
