Gaja, Family winery in Barbaresco, Italy

The Gaja winery encompasses 240 acres of vineyards across Barbaresco and Barolo regions, producing wines from Nebbiolo grapes in northwestern Italy.

Giovanni Gaja established the winery in 1859, marking the beginning of five generations of winemaking excellence in the Piedmont region of Italy.

The Gaja family introduced modern winemaking techniques to Piedmont, including single vineyard production and French oak barrels for aging their wines.

The estate produces 18 different wines from three locations: the main property in Barbaresco, Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino, and Ca'Marcanda in Bolgheri.

Angelo Gaja transformed Italian winemaking by introducing malolactic fermentation and establishing single vineyard production starting with Sorí San Lorenzo in 1967.
