Hoher Dieb, Mountain summit in South Tyrol, Italy

Hoher Dieb rises to 2730 meters between Val Venosta and Val d'Ultimo. The summit features two distinct peaks connected by a 15-minute walking path across the ridge.

The mountain bears different names across languages, with Hoher Dieb in German and Gran Ladro in Italian, both translating to High Thief. This naming reflects the region's longtime cultural and linguistic duality.

The summit displays a traditional alpine cross facing Val d'Ultimo and includes a stone pile with a wooden marker. These features serve as meeting points where hikers pause to take in views across neighboring valleys.

Hikers can begin their ascent from Steinrast station near Schwemmalm ski area by following trail 4B. The climb to the summit takes approximately three hours and twenty minutes.

From the summit, visitors can spot the Kofelraster lakes, which reflect the surrounding peaks during summer months. These mirrorlike reflections create a memorable sight on clear days.
