Warth Castle

Warth Castle is a medieval fortress positioned on a hilltop near St. Paul and contains a great hall, keep, and curtain wall within its fortified design. The building has been enlarged and converted into residential spaces over time while maintaining its defensive features and original stone walls.

The structure began as a manor house in the 12th century and changed hands repeatedly among bishops, princes, and noble families. Later owners adapted it to their needs and integrated new building techniques into the original framework.

The castle displays Gothic oriel windows and medieval construction details that show how South Tyrolean builders worked across different periods. These architectural features remain visible throughout the interior, revealing local traditions in fortress design.

The property sits on a hilltop and is most easily reached on foot or by car, with parking available on the grounds. Access to interior areas is straightforward, though some stairs are needed to reach upper levels.

A carved inscription from 1613 is visible above an interior doorway and marks a major renovation phase. This permanent mark shows how residents documented their work and left their mark on the building.
