Castello di Burgos

Castello di Burgos stands on a high granite outcrop and consists of multiple layers of defensive walls surrounding a central tower at its core. The structure takes full advantage of the cliff's natural shape, creating a fortified position difficult to approach from any direction.

Built in the early 12th century, it represented an important advancement in regional fortification technology. The structure gradually lost its strategic importance as power centers shifted within the island over the following centuries.

The name reflects its medieval past, and visitors can sense its former role as a key defensive position through what remains standing today. Walking through the ruins reveals how people once lived and worked within these walls.

The site is accessible by foot, with paths leading to the main tower, but the terrain is uneven and requires sturdy shoes. Bring water and sun protection, as the elevated location offers little shade from the elements.

The construction combines different materials in its layered walls, with the outer and inner sections built from distinct substances serving different defensive purposes. This building method shows practical knowledge of material strength and durability that was uncommon in the region at that time.
