Castello di Drena
Castello di Drena, Medieval castle and historical park museum in Drena, Italy
Castello di Drena is a castle ruin with a central tower and double defensive walls set on elevated terrain. The buildings display Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements, while the raised location offers views across the Sarca Valley.
The castle was founded in the 12th century and controlled the strategic route between Trento and Lake Garda. It suffered damage in 1703 from military action and survives today as a partially preserved structure.
The castle displays medieval tools and artwork from different periods within its stone rooms. Visitors can understand how people lived and worked in this place long ago.
The site sits on a hillside and is best reached on foot, with the grounds featuring steep pathways. It is wise to allow extra time for the climb and wear comfortable shoes.
Below the castle lies a prehistoric settlement site next to an extensive field of boulders. This rocky landscape formed during the Ice Age and covers a large area, showing the long human presence in this region.
