Castle of Bominaco, Medieval fortress in Bominaco, Italy.
The Castle of Bominaco is a fortress on a strategic hilltop with a trapezoidal layout, reinforced by squared towers and a cylindrical defensive tower. The structures display typical medieval construction techniques and fortification systems of the period.
The fortification was destroyed in 1424 by Braccio da Montone and subsequently rebuilt under Cyprian of Iacobuccio with authorization from Pope Martin V. This reconstruction marked the renewal of the stronghold in the 15th century.
The castle forms part of a monumental complex alongside the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Oratory of San Pellegrino, showing how military and religious sites were built together in this region. You can see today how these structures were integrated into daily life.
The fortress can be entered and explored, allowing visitors to see medieval masonry and fortification elements up close. Plan enough time to examine all towers and structures thoroughly during your visit.
The castle sits on an elevated position on the Navelli plateau, offering visitors wide views across surrounding landscapes. This high position was once crucial for military control of the region.
