Castello di San Michele, Medieval fortress in Ossana, Italy

The San Michele Castle rises on a rock formation with steep cliffs on three sides, featuring a prominent 25-meter-high stone tower.

First documented in 1191, the castle changed ownership through centuries, passing from Prince-Bishops of Trento to noble families including the Counts of Tyrol-Gorizia.

The castle features a mix of Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements, with thick stone walls measuring 2.78 meters throughout the structure.

Guided tours operate daily at specific times, with standard admission at 4 euros for adults and 3 euros for visitors under 18 and over 65.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Bertha von Suttner maintained co-ownership of the castle from the late nineteenth century into the early twentieth century.
