Badia Nuova

Badia Nuova is a Baroque monastery in Alcamo composed of chapels and prayer spaces furnished with altars and religious artworks. The building displays characteristic Baroque features with decorated details throughout its interior layout.

The original foundation dates to 1531, but a fire destroyed the previous San Anastasia oratory in 1623. This destruction led to a complete reconstruction in the Baroque style that defines the building today.

The name 'Badia Nuova' refers to a rebuilt abbey after past destruction, reflecting the community's commitment to restoration and spiritual continuity. Today you can observe how the space displays religious artworks and devotional practices that remain central to local identity.

The monastery's library contains paintings created in 1754 by Giovanni Antonio Cucchi depicting allegorical scenes of arts and sciences. These works are unusual for combining religious spaces with Enlightenment themes, showing the intellectual aspirations of the community.
