Giardino dei Ciucioi, 19th century terraced garden in Lavis, Italy.
The Giardino dei Ciucioi is a terraced garden in the Lavis valley with multiple levels arranged on top of each other, ascending in a spiral pattern uphill. Walking through it, you pass various architectural elements and small buildings until reaching the main house at the upper end.
An entrepreneur created this garden work in the middle of the 19th century, investing considerable resources into his project. The result became a distinctive, artfully designed site that was later recognized as cultural heritage.
The garden displays different architectural styles woven together into a visual story: neo-Gothic chapels, Renaissance loggias, and Moorish towers stand side by side as visitors move through the space, shaping how the place feels as you walk.
Visits are best made Tuesday through Sunday, with guided tours on weekends offering deeper insight into the space. Comfortable shoes are important since climbing through the multiple levels and ramps is physically demanding.
The spiral ramp does not simply lead upward but was intentionally designed to be visible from the Trento-Malè railway line. This sightline reveals that the creator wanted his work admired even by passengers on passing trains.
