Villa Friedenberg

Villa Friedenberg is a three-story neoclassical villa in Chirignago near Venice with two side wings and a long barchessa extending toward a main gate. The building spans roughly 40 meters in length and sits within extensive grounds totaling around 28,000 square meters.

This villa was built in the 18th century and served as a temporary detention facility for Jewish deportees during World War II. It was used as a transit point before people were transported to concentration camps.

Names carved into the villa walls remain as reminders of Jewish prisoners who were held here during the Holocaust. These inscriptions tell the story of people who passed through this place during a tragic period in history.

Visit by prior arrangement is recommended since the property is privately owned and currently undergoing restoration work. Be prepared for uneven grounds and variable weather conditions, especially when exploring the surrounding gardens and grounds.

Two ancient magnolia trees frame the entrance garden and create a striking green welcome at the property's edge. Beyond the main building, the grounds open to a spacious park with ponds and rolling hills that offer a quiet escape from the nearby city.
