Casa dell'Orfano, Charitable palace in Clusone, Italy.
Casa dell'Orfano is a complex of buildings in Clusone that combines multiple functions within a large estate. The site includes a main residence, a chapel, dormitory facilities, school spaces, a theater, and medical facilities, all set within a pine forest.
Monsignor Giovanni Antonietti, a military chaplain, founded Casa dell'Orfano in 1925 to provide shelter for war orphans from Bergamo province. The facility grew through private donations that allowed for expansion of its buildings and services.
The chapel was decorated in 1929 with works by local artists including Arzuffi, Servalli, Taragni, and Monzio Compagnoni. These artworks shape the interior character of the complex and reflect the region's artistic heritage.
The theater was built between 1948 and 1950 with capacity for 800 people across its gallery and ground seating. The stage opens toward the pine forest, creating an unusual connection between the interior and outdoor space.
Count Giacomo Suardo, a collector and patron, bequeathed part of his estate to the institution, including antique paintings. These works are now displayed at the Arte-Tempo Museum in Clusone, showing his connection to this place.
