Santa Maria Assunta

The Santa Maria Assunta church features a limestone facade with a prominent rose window and a portico supported by columns displaying evangelist symbols.

The current structure dates from the 11th to 12th centuries, replacing an earlier church from the 8th century, with major works completed by 1230.

The church floor incorporates Cosmatesque patterns, creating a ceremonial path through various decorative combinations that guide religious processions.

Visitors can access the crypt beneath the presbytery through side doors, where Corinthian columns divide the space into small naves.

The facade contains a stone eagle at its apex carrying a sacrificial lamb, while ceramic discs surrounding the rose window depict the six days of creation.
