Maria Santissima Assunta

Maria Santissima Assunta is a church in Petralia Sottana featuring Spanish Gothic architecture with three naves divided by monolithic Tuscan columns. An ornate main portal marks the entrance, while the interior displays Baroque decorations and paintings related to religious themes.

Construction of the current building began in 1633 and finished in 1680, replacing an older Norman structure on the same location. The redesign brought a new architectural style to this important local religious site.

The church's name reflects the Assumption of Mary, a key celebration in the community's religious calendar. Inside, the ornate decorations tell visitors about the faith and devotion that shaped local identity over centuries.
