Founded in 737 by the noblewoman Manigunda during the Lombard period, the monastery functioned as an administrative center for extensive land properties.
The monastery contains medieval frescoes by Aurelio Luini and Romanesque sculptural decorations that demonstrate northern Italian religious art evolution.
The monastery museum displays archaeological findings and presents different thematic routes including 'Before the Monastery' and 'From Romanesque to Renaissance' periods.
The entrance features a 1710 arch decorated with statues of the Assumption and angels, with an inscription referring to Manigunda as Queen of Goths.
