Castello Bonoris

Castello Bonoris, Neo-Gothic castle in Montichiari, Italy.

Castello Bonoris is a Neo-Gothic castle on San Pancrazio hill with stone towers and decorated walls overlooking Montichiari. The structure combines architectural elements from different periods and houses numerous decorated rooms inside.

The castle was built in 1890 on the ruins of an ancient fortification after banker Gaetano Bonoris received a noble title from King Umberto I. He used this opportunity to create an imposing private residence that reflected his new status.

The interior spaces feature frescoes by Giuseppe Rollini, including religious paintings in the chapel and elaborate artworks in the council room. These artistic works were created between 1897 and 1901 and shape the character of the rooms to this day.

Access is normally limited to certain days and hours, so visitors should check opening times in advance. The best time to visit is during the warmer months when outdoor areas are fully accessible.

The castle was designed and built by craftsmen and artists who previously worked on the Medieval Village project for the 1884 Turin Exhibition. This connection shows how Bonoris brought together the best talents of his time for his project.
