Genoa-Saint George viaduct, Highway bridge in Genoa, Italy

The steel and concrete viaduct stretches 1,067 meters across the Polcevera valley, supported by eighteen elliptical pillars reaching 40 meters in height.

The structure replaced the Morandi Bridge after its collapse in 2018, with construction beginning in 2019 and official inauguration occurring on August 3, 2020.

Architect Renzo Piano incorporated maritime elements into the design, reflecting Genoa's naval tradition through the bridge's steel components and ship-inspired color scheme.

The viaduct contains automated monitoring systems and dehumidification technology to prevent saline condensation, while photovoltaic panels power the lighting and inspection equipment.

The bridge features variable-length beams up to 50 meters long and deep foundations extending 50 meters into the ground for enhanced structural stability.
