Palazzo Mincuzzi, Commercial building in Murat district, Bari, Italy
Palazzo Mincuzzi is a commercial building at the corner of Sparano and Putignani streets in Bari's Murat district, distinguished by its corner dome and columns. The ornate facade features rustic pilasters and Ionic capitals framing the entrance level, while upper floors are lined with tall windows for visibility into the shops.
The structure was designed between 1926 and 1928 by architect Aldo Forcignanò and engineer Gaetano Palmiotto as a department store for the Mincuzzi family. It emerged during a period when Bari was expanding its modern districts and establishing new commercial spaces for retail growth.
The building reflects early 20th-century design trends and remains a place where locals conduct daily errands and gather with friends. Its monumental staircase inside creates a sense of importance and continuity, making it a gathering point in the city's shopping area.
The building sits at a central intersection in Bari's main shopping zone and is easy to reach on foot when exploring the Murat district. Its distinctive position and street layout make it a natural landmark for visitors trying to navigate the area.
The glass dome inside the building lets natural light flood the lower floors, creating a rare architectural effect for a structure from that era. This lighting solution was innovative at the time and made shopping inside more pleasant during the day.
