Hiyoshi Taisha, Shinto shrine in Ōtsu, Japan
Hiyoshi Taisha is a prominent Shinto shrine located at the foot of Mount Hiei in Ōtsu, Shiga, Japan.
Established in 806, it is one of the oldest and most significant shrines in the country.
The shrine is dedicated to Sanno Gongen, the deity of Mount Hiei, and plays a central role in the Tendai sect of Buddhism.
It's easily accessible from Kyoto and offers beautiful views, especially during cherry blossom season.
The shrine complex consists of two main areas, the Nishi Hongū (West Shrine) and the Higashi Hongū (East Shrine).
