Wako, Residential city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan
Located on the Musashino Terrace, Wako spans 11.04 square kilometers with the Shirako River flowing along its border with Itabashi Ward.
The area transformed from two separate villages, Shirako and Niikura, which merged in 1943 to form the town of Yamato before becoming Wako city in 1970.
Archaeological discoveries across Wako reveal extensive evidence of ancient settlements through Jomon period pottery and implements found at multiple sites.
The city maintains eight public elementary schools, three middle schools, and two prefectural high schools serving its population of 84,161 residents.
Myoten-ji temple houses a statue of Nichiren and features Koyasu no Shimizu, connected to traditions of safe childbirth through willow twig blessings.
