Katagami, City in Akita Prefecture, Japan
Katagami is a city in Akita Prefecture, located in northwestern Japan where coastal plains meet the Sea of Japan. The landscape includes Lake Hachirōgata and varied terrain that ranges from flat areas to small hills and sand dunes.
The city was established in 2005 through the merger of three towns: Iitagawa, Shōwa, and Tennō. This consolidation created the administrative structure that exists today.
The city emblem features symbolic elements with a red circle representing people and curved lines depicting Lake Hachiro in blue and green colors.
The area is easily accessible with a mix of flat and hilly terrain that varies across different zones. Visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions given the location between the sea and the lake.
The eastern side features small hills, while three distinctive sand dunes define the western region. These natural formations give the area its particular geographical character.
