Kameyama

Kameyama is a city in northern Mie Prefecture surrounded by forested mountains and valleys. The landscape rises and falls between the Suzuka and Nunobiki ranges, creating a rural setting with patches of town development.

The city grew around a castle founded in 1264 that later became an important administrative center during Japan's feudal period. This castle-centered development shaped how the settlement expanded and organized itself.

The city built its identity around candle-making, a craft that shaped how people lived and worked here for centuries. You can still find traces of this heritage in the way locals talk about their city's past.

The city is served by a railway line with regular train service that connects to surrounding areas. The hilly terrain requires some effort when exploring on foot, so plan accordingly.

Only a few structures survive from the original castle complex, including a watchtower and gate. These rare remains offer visitors a glimpse into how the fortress was built and organized.
