Iwamizawa, Capital city in Sorachi Subprefecture, Japan

Iwamizawa stretches across 481 square kilometers of land in Hokkaido, maintaining a population density of 160 residents per square kilometer.

The region transformed from its original name Yuamisawa, meaning Bathing Swamp, to gain official city status in 1943 after serving as a village and town.

The municipal mascot Iwami-chan, depicted as an onion character, represents the city alongside Kuri-chan, a female squirrel mascot, in local events.

The city connects to major destinations through the Hakodate Main Line, Muroran Main Line, and Hokkaido Expressway transportation network.

Iwamizawa maintains international relationships through sister city partnerships with Pocatello, Idaho and Canby, Oregon, fostering regular youth exchange programs.
