Koga, Metropolitan city in southwestern Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan
The city spans across 123 square kilometers of land between the Tone River in the south and Watarase River in the west.
The settlement dates back to the Jomon period and later served as a strategic ferry port on the Watarase River during the Nara period.
The Koga History Museum presents local artifacts and documents the transformation from a castle town into an industrial center of eastern Japan.
The city operates 23 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, and 5 high schools, supporting education for its population of 137,512 residents.
