Hitachiomiya, Rural municipality in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan
Hitachiomiya is a city in Ibaraki Prefecture that spreads across 348 square kilometers at the eastern foot of the Yamizo Mountains, where the Kuji River flows through the eastern section. The landscape features forests, river valleys, and farmland that shape its character.
Ōmiya was established in Naka District on April 1, 1889, beginning a chapter that would last more than a century. The city of Hitachiomiya took its present form through municipal mergers in 2004.
Farming shapes daily life here, with local agricultural practices woven into the rhythm of seasons and community activities. This connection to the land influences how residents spend their time and organize their year.
The JR East Suigun Line connects Hitachiomiya to neighboring areas, while National Routes 118, 123, and 293 provide road access throughout the region. Since the city is rural in character, having a car or using local bus services makes getting around easier.
About 59 percent of the city is covered by forest, creating a landscape dominated by nature rather than development. This extensive woodland gives the place a quieter, greener character than typical urban areas.
