Tsukumi, Coastal town in Oita Prefecture, Japan

Tsukumi extends along the Bungo Channel with the Youra Peninsula to the south and Nagame Peninsula to the north, covering 79 square kilometers.

The town emerged from ancient Bungo Province, with records showing mandarin orange cultivation dating back to 740 AD before becoming a city in 1951.

The Tsukumi Iruka-jima Marine-life Centre maintains a dolphin preservation program where visitors observe marine mammals in their natural environment.
