Tsugaru, Coastal city in northern Aomori Prefecture, Japan

The city spans across 253 square kilometers on the west coast of Tsugaru Peninsula, with Mount Iwaki standing prominently to the southwest.

The region belonged to the Tsugaru clan during the Edo period before becoming an official city through the merger of Kizukuri and several villages in 2005.

The Tachineputa Museum displays three large festival floats used during the Goshogawara Tachineputa Festival, one of Japan's major summer celebrations.

The Gonō train line and Tsugaru Expressway provide transportation access, while seven public elementary schools and five junior high schools serve the local population.

The city name appears in hiragana script rather than traditional kanji characters, making it an exception among Japanese municipal names.
