Koka, Historical ninja city in Shiga Prefecture, Japan

Located at the southern end of Shiga Prefecture, Kōka extends across 481 square kilometers of land bordered by the Suzuka Mountains to the east.

During the Sengoku period of the 15th century, Kōka developed independent ninja clans that operated outside traditional samurai hierarchies and provided mercenary services.

The Shigaraki district of Kōka represents one of Japan's primary pottery centers, producing traditional ceramics through methods passed down through generations.

The city connects to Kyoto through the JR Tokaido line and Kusatsu Line, with multiple stations serving different areas of the municipality.

The Miho Museum, integrated into the mountains of Kōka, displays ancient artifacts from the Silk Road in a structure designed by architect I.M. Pei.
