Fujimino is a residential city in Saitama Prefecture that spreads across flat terrain on the northern side of the Musashino Terrace. Several railway lines cross the area and connect neighborhoods with shopping zones around the stations.
Archaeological finds show settlements from the early Jomon period several thousand years ago. The modern city emerged in 2005 from the merger of two neighboring towns.
The name Kamifukuoka still appears on railway stations and street signs because it was an independent town until 2005. Residents shop for fresh produce at small markets near the train stations.
Most visitors arrive by train and use the stations as starting points for walks through the surrounding residential areas. Shops and facilities cluster near the railway stations while neighborhoods farther out remain quieter.
Old maps show the Shingashi River as an important trade route for goods from the mountains. A warehouse from the 1870s still stands on the northern edge of the municipal area.
