Fujiya Hotel, Historic resort hotel in Hakone, Japan
Fujiya Hotel is a resort in Hakone made up of four distinct buildings constructed over different periods: the Main Building from 1891, Comfy Lodge from 1906, Flower Palace from 1936, and Forest Wing from 1960. Together they offer guest rooms, three dining venues serving French, Japanese, and Western food, along with hot spring access and an on-site museum.
The hotel was founded in 1878 by Sennosuke Yamaguchi during Japan's period of opening to international visitors. It became a preferred destination for foreign travelers from the Yokohama region.
The Main Building blends Japanese design traditions with European influences visible throughout its rooms and decoration. This mix reflects how the country welcomed foreign visitors and adopted international styles in its hospitality spaces.
The property sits on a hillside with pathways connecting the different buildings at varying elevations. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore the separate structures and enjoy the hot spring facilities.
Each room in the Flower Palace building is named after a specific flower with interior design that matches this theme. This thoughtful decoration makes every stay in that section feel personalized.
