Taishi, Historical town in Minamikawachi district, Japan

Taishi spans 14.17 square kilometers in southeastern Osaka Prefecture, bordered by the Kongo Range and Katsuragi Mountains separating Osaka from Nara Prefecture.

The town formed on April 1, 1956, through the merger of Isonaga and Yamada villages, taking its name from Prince Shotoku, a significant figure in Japanese history.

The Mausoleum of Ono-no Imoko stands as a testament to the diplomatic relations between Japan and China during the seventh century Sui dynasty period.

The town maintains a population of 13,172 residents across 5,572 households, with a density of 930 people per square kilometer as recorded in April 2021.

Multiple imperial tombs grace the landscape of Taishi, including the final resting places of Emperor Bidatsu, Emperor Yomei, Empress Suiko, and Prince Shotoku.
